14 Died In 66 Road Crashes In Ogun State

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) corps, has in a statement made available to newsmen revealed that 14 lives were lost in the state to road accidents in the previous month.

The report, as confirmed by the corps spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the number of casualties were recorded from 66 road crashes involving both vehicles and motorcycles, otherwise known as okada.

All the incidents happened across Ogun State in August 2020, Akinbiyi noted in the reports. According to him, 55 of the road crashes involved cars, buses and trucks, while other 11 crashes involved motorcycles.

The statement revealed further that 12 persons died in the accident involving motorcycles, while the remaining two died in those involving vehicles. TRACE recorded that 7 of those who died in the crashes were men, while the remaining seven were females.

Akinbiyi disclosed that 109 persons had sustained injuries in the road crashes that occurred in the state, adding that 38 of them were women and 71 were men. The Ogun traffic agency, however, admonished motorists to obey all traffic rules, especially in the ‘Ember’ months.

TRACE charged all drivers to respect the rights of other road users while reminding them that only safety can take them to their destinations.
