Richard Bassey, one of the unpaid magistrates while protesting today 5th January 2021 in Calabar collapsed at the gate of Governor Ben Ayade’ office on Day Two of their protest over 24 months unpaid salaries.

Richard Bassey, was revived by his colleagues who later took him to a hospital.

Solomon Abuo, while speaking on behalf of the protesting magistrates noted that no government official had addressed them since they began the protest.

He further stated that the state government had tossed them around for two years.

He said: “As I speak we are still working. We will continue to protest until we are paid. This is our last resort,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, the magistrates were still awaiting the government’s response.

It was also reported that the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, drove pass the protesters without attending to them when the magistrate collapsed.
