Governor Ikpeazu Tests Negative
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday, July 3, has confirmed the coronavirus status of Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu as Nagative.
According to John Okiyi Kalu, the state’s commissioner for information on Saturday, July 4, with some NCDC officials stated that the governor has fully recovered from the virus:
“To God the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, 2nd July, 2020, returned negative result on Friday, 3rd July, 2020.
“Governor Ikpeazu is therefore deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organization (WHO). Thank you.”
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi has also tested positive on Saturday, July 4. The governor confirmed that he had contracted the deadly coronavirus which had also encroached into his state.
Umahi announced his coronavirus status in a statement on Saturday, adding that some of his aides have also tested positive for the virus.
Although the governor revealed that he is asymptomatic at the moment, Umahi stated that he has gone into self-isolation in line with protocols given by the NCDC.
The governor went on to say that until further notice he will attend all meetings virtually; he called on all residents in the state to strictly observe all safety measure to curb the spread of the disease.
