Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, has tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. The state commissioner of information, John Okiyi Kalu, disclosed this news in a statement on Monday, June 8.
John Okiyi Kalu said the governor had gone into isolation and directed his deputy governor to act on his behalf pending the time he resumes duty.
The Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has gone into isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
The commissioner urged all people in Abia state to take the fight against COVID-19 serious because the disease is real.
“Consequent on the above, the Governor has directed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of duties.
“We wish to urge all Abians to take the fight against COVID-19 serious as the disease is real but not a death sentence. Our state has the resources to manage patients back to good health.“
Governor Ikpeazu is the fourth Nigerian governor to contract the coronavirus. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi previously tested positive for the virus but fully recovered.
