Veteran rapper, Ruggedman slammed Senator Elisha Abbo after being spotted in a viral video promising to support the bill for social media regulation.
The lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District who spoke during the senate’s plenary session on the bill titled ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulation 2019’ which recently passed its second reading, called for its quick passage into law on grounds of the country being consumed if the menace of fake news is not contained.
“The issue of fake news in this country, if it’s not regulated is a cancer waiting to consume all of us,” Abbo said.
“Even conventional media that are regulated are suffering from falsehood. If we cannot regulate the spread of falsehood, it will consume all of us tomorrow.”
Somewhere in the world some people are building solar powered trucks but some members of the @NGRSenate are busy talking about shutting down the internet in Nigeria via a #SocialMediaBill & hanging Nigerians for hate speech. Fund & equip the @PoliceNG to do that job. pic.twitter.com/wNxXsRTUPs

Ruggedman who took a dig at Senator Abbo, wondered why he never backed a bill to check ”embezzlement, police brutality excessive charging by telecommunication companies in the country.”
Sharing the video of Senator Abbo speaking during the plenary session, Ruggedman wrote;
U skipped supporting the police reform bill.
